Alexander Tarrant, M.A., AMFT

Art + Science

Drawing on my training in somatic psychotherapy, and decades of creative practice, I’m able to be of unique service to my clients.

When working with you on your presenting issues, whether it be: Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, or perhaps something you don’t have words for, I am: open, non-judgmental, and curious.

I am trained in Somatic Experiencing, a body-centered approach to resolving symptoms of trauma, and familiar with recovery from acute mental health diagnoses and addiction.

A Healing Relationship

Beyond any technique of healing, research shows that the relationship between therapist and client is the most important factor in a successful outcome.

That relationship is beginning right now as you read a bit about my practice, and if you are feeling affinity, the next step is to contact me—

Guiding Principles

Our past affects our present.

Our past experiences, and our adaptations to those experiences show up in our present day patterns. We can gain insight into these patterns, then ask “what now?”

You are the expert.

You are innately good and wise. The therapist is not above or below you, we are meeting as equals.

Mind and Body are not separate.

Our body carries clues and gateways to unresolved traumas and patterns that may be stuck or frozen. It may be something that there are no words for. Our bodies have a natural healing intelligence that we can tap into to cultivate peace, resilience, and a deep sense of "okayness".

We are not separate from our environment.

We are in relationship to (and part of) ecosystems at every scale: family, community, city, country, world. Our environment holds clues as to what is happening inside, just as our inner world is a reflection of our external world.

The Mystery

There is mystery in life. Sometimes, through special experiences like dreams, visions, meditations, synchronicities, we get a peek at the mystery. It is helpful to process and integrate these experiences.

Invisible Problems, Imaginary Solutions

The nature of psychological challenges is that, while they have very real effects in our lives, they are invisible, intangible, often difficult to grasp. However, in the realm of the invisible, imagination is a superpower to shift, change, and heal.
